Sumba Child Development Center
The Sumba Child Development Center is located on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda’s capital. Many people in this area live in mud houses and make a living by growing crops. Most households consist of about 10 to 15 people and are only able to provide one meal a day for the entire family. The childcare center began as an orphanage with a philosophy grounded in the love of Christ. In February 2011, this orphanage relocated to a new facility and changed its name to the Upendo Christian Academy. Here the children attend schools, eat three warm meals a day, receive personal love and care, learn Bible lessons, and live in a Christian environment. Children who are HIV positive are now resting in the care of a loving staff. This childcare center provides children with the hope that they are longing for, which is found in Christ alone.
