Do Something Good - That's Good for You!
Sponsoring a child benefits the sponsor as well!

In articles about AMG’s childcare ministry, we often focus on the benefits that the children receive—food, medical care, help with education, and spiritual training. AMG is able to give this help only as we partner with sponsors who want to rescue a child from the risks that he or she faces daily. The help that the children receive from AMG is so important that it is often the difference between life and death.

But it is not just the children who benefit from the child-sponsor relationship. Sponsors receive great blessings, too! Kathy from Nashville, Tennessee had this to say: “I signed up to sponsor a child with AMG. I received a picture on Friday. I’m so excited . . .  It’s been such a blessing! I have his picture hanging in my office. It’s one of the best things that I have ever made a decision to do.”

Other sponsors have the added blessing of actually being able to meet their sponsored child. Mark from Ocala, Florida, went on a short-term trip with AMG to Uganda. From the following report, it is impossible to tell who benefited the most from the meeting, Mark or his sponsored child, Gorreti:

“Meeting my sponsored child really meant so much to me that I am still trying to understand it all. Masajja is an area steeped in witchcraft and poverty. Yet, in that seemingly dismal location, I met the child I sponsor. This beautiful young lady, Gorreti Nabakooza, 11 years old, is so gentle and so Christ-like. I also met her father, mother, and siblings. Her father had been a sorcerer until 1999, when he was born again. I was shown pictures of him burning his sorcery books as church members looked on.

“I met with Gorreti on three different occasions. The first meeting was so special. She presented me with a beautiful bracelet and a mat she had made. The second meeting took place as she and her family attended a church where I was preaching. This was almost surreal; as long as I live I could imagine no greater honor.

“At our last meeting, I brought some coloring books, so we spent the better part of two hours talking, coloring, and I even had her do some math problems. She told of wanting to become a nurse, and I told her that with God’s grace she could be whatever she wanted. This meeting was so poignant, so powerful, the type which seems rare in life. I was very touched. My heart was so full.

“Gorreti and her mother walked me to the car. Neither of us wanted the moment to pass, knowing it would be some time before we’d see each other again. As we walked she took my hand, and many people stared as Gorreti walked holding this white man’s hand. I’ll never forget her standing there waving as our car disappeared from view.”

Mark concludes by encouraging others to get involved: “I saw firsthand the dynamic impact of sponsoring a child. This modest sum of $25 a month goes a very long way, providing for the child’s welfare. Seeing the deep gratitude of Gorreti’s family made me desire to do more. The childcare centers are truly beacons of hope in dark places.”

If you want to do something good for yourself, start sponsoring a child today. There are so many who are waiting and who need your help. You’ll be glad you did, and the benefits to the child — and the blessing to you — will be life changing.
