A Word from AMG President Paul Jenks
October, 2008 Dear Partner in Ministry,
What does the term mean? First: When we at AMG use the term, we are always referring to a fellow believer. A “national worker” is someone who loves Jesus, but who lives in a different part of the world. Second: We use the term to distinguish between a missionary sent to another country from the USA, and an indigenous believer who is a “missionary” to his or her own countrymen. Third: A “national worker” is someone engaged in ministry. Most often, this is a believer for whom ministry is their vocation. They are full-time “ministers.” Fourth: Our use of the term indicates that the individual “national worker’s” ministry is underwritten either in full or in part with financial support from another Christian believer, usually in the USA. What does a national worker do? Good question. The National Workers who are sponsored through AMG International serve as church pastors (often more than one church), church planters, child development center staff or directors, radio program hosts, correspondents, VBS workers, summer camp staff, disaster relief workers, and seminary or Bible school trainers. Their ministries are as varied as are the opportunities for service and witness. What does AMG do to support their ministries? AMG International’s involvement is primarily through sponsorship. We facilitate a connection between believers in the USA and those in other countries, and encourage prayer and financial support for others as a way to help fulfill Christ’s Great Commission. Another way in which AMG supports national workers is by sending short term ministry teams. This extra manpower is especially helpful for VBS or special outreach programs, medical clinics, or to help when ministry centers are in need of painting, expansion, or repairs. AMG also sponsors occasional training seminars and conferences for the encouragement and edification of these workers. Why does it matter? AMG encourages these partnerships in response to the Apostle Paul’s example of becoming “all things to all men” for the sake of the Gospel. Partnership with other Christians is one way to extend our individual and corporate influence into places where the Gospel needs to be heard. Partnership with national workers is also a good investment of resources. Whenever it is possible to support someone who already knows the language and culture, the financial investment can stretch considerably further. Sponsorship connections across the globe are also a way to “encourage one another to love and good works” – the admonition from the writer to the Hebrews, for believers who were facing discouragement in their daily walk. It’s never too late to join us! As long as there are opportunities to bring the Gospel to those who have yet to hear it, there is opportunity to share in the task with other believers. AMG International currently helps underwrite the ministries of 323 national workers in 21 countries. Others have graduating from training programs and are praying for you to join in ministry with them through sponsorship. Your monthly gift and faithful prayers can readily become a lifeline to another Christian who is serving the Lord in their own homeland, but who will come to rely on your fellowship and partnership to make that ministry possible. This is especially beneficial in countries where the workers are lonely and in communities that may be hostile to the Gospel message. You are invited…! Please join me today by your commitment to undertake monthly sponsorship of a national worker. $50 a month will make it possible for someone in a faraway place to devote their time and energies to bringing the Gospel to their own people. If the Lord moves you to consider it, contact AMG for information about a short term ministry trip. Such a trip can be a life-changing experience for you as you get a new view of what God is doing in another place. And pray with us – faithfully and fervently – for the lives and ministries of our Christian brothers and sisters who are “letting their light shine before men” for the glory of God. Yours in Christ, Paul E. Jenks, President |
